Make a Play for Game Day Guacamole

There's a good selection of avocados available right now, along with other ingredients.

A few weeks back we looked at . We're returning to that theme since--if you're looking for guacamole to play center on your Super Bowl table--there's a good selection of avocados available at Sunday's market at the Alamitos Bay Marina.

Look for the Hass, Bacon and Fuerte varieties this week at the Cheng, Pedro's, Van Foeken and Gonzaga stands. Expect to pay from for $1 to $2 each. (Gless should have them, pre-bagged, in a couple of weeks.) Make sure they're good and ripe--Super Bowl kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. If in doubt, ask the vendor.

A refresher on how to pick a ripe one: If it has a stem, it should pull out easily. If not: When you give it a gentle squeeze it should feel like squeezing the palm of your hand.
