He Called it Serendipity.

It truly was - serendipity. What else could have made it so? Three years to the day after which I began the Community Lemonade Game, here I was in a classroom completing my training in LEGO(r) Serious Play (from it’s creator, and one-time head of the LEGO(r) Education division, Robert Rasmussen). I was learning a new, very powerful language of expression. Learning how to make metaphors in LEGO(r) bricks. I’d seen it done by my elementary aged students before, and was in awe of their abilities to see so much in a few LEGO(r) bricks. It’s no secret that my awareness of the power of the bricks started with my then 2 year old nephew Danny, and two Duplo(r) bricks arranged as an airplane and flown around the room. This week, I spent finding the hand to mind pathways that building with bricks can forge and strengthen.

We started as strangers and ended as friends. At absolute minimum, a group of 12 men and women, affixed to the same gears, headed on the same path... We were from Australia, Trinidad, Kansas, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Virginia and, of course, California. We had seen Robert - Mr. Rasmussen - masterfully demonstrate the building of a team, the creation and strengthening of bonds. We had seen the technique that is LEGO(r) Serious Play demonstrated in a situation that was so very real.

So here we are, three years into making Lemonade, and still lots of Community Lemonade in the future.
