As I walked around the neighborhood yesterday, I admired the Halloween decorations. Some years, I’ve been known to dress up my house with webs and spiders. My papier mache monster that I made (using the techniques of Dan the Monster Man) has finally been retired after his head exploded when he was rained on earlier this year. I guess if I’d saved all those pieces of paper, I could have put them out as part of a Halloween display - Exploding Monster Brains.
One year we put out tombstones we’d purchased in a mock graveyard display. It was good for a while, until my husband went on travel for a couple of weeks. Then I was coming home to a dark house in a cemetary. That didn’t work for me. I’ll admit, we scared me out of my wits. The gravestones came up and haven’t been pulled out since. I should sell them in the next garage sale.
When I visit the Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor, I always start out with a cavalier attitude. Bit by bit, I’m worn down. I must admit, sometimes, I react with a scream because it’s fun, and even expected of me. I grip my husband’s hand tightly because, even though we’ve been married a long time, it’s still fun. But then the fear begins to take over. I begin to believe that I’m truly scared.... and if I believe I’m scared.... then I’m scared. I know, it’s a bit circular.
