The Carpenter Center, a partner of the Independent
Television Service, will host six free screenings of ITVS documentary films through
its Community Cinema project. We’ll offer guest speakers, information,
resources and other programming designed to enrich your experience with each
film. The films cover important social issues such as racism, homophobia, education,
climate change, freedom of religion, and women’s rights.

Dating from the aftermath of the Spanish- American
War, the annual debutante ball in Laredo, Texas is unlike any other. Las
Marthas follows two Mexican American girls carrying this gilded tradition
on their young shoulders during a time of economic uncertainty and political
tension over immigration.
