Long Beach Area Sees a New Heat Record Set

The heat was enough to replace a record established six years ago.

The Long Beach area broke a record today but it may not be one it wanted to break.

National Weather Service officials report the gauge hit 93 degrees today at its warmest for this time of year. That breaks the previous record of 89 degrees set in 2007, weather officials said.

These are preliminary reports, officials said.

A record high of 95 degrees was also recorded at the Bob Hope International Airport in Burbank, breaking the old record of 9 1degrees set in 1974.

Thursday was expected to be sunny, with a high near 70 with northeast winds 5 to 10 miles per hour becoming south in the morning. That was expected to drop to 53 degrees at night with increasing clouds eventually becoming patchy fog after 11 p.m.
