Long Beach Councilman Dee Andrews To Host 6th District Town Hall
Andrews will host a Town Hall meeting regarding the city's emergency disaster plan. A second meeting will focus on youth empowerment.

While the Long Beach City Council does not meet this week, that doesn’t mean that the councilmen are taking the week off.
Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews is set to host a Sixth District Town Hall, from 6-7 p.m. pm Tuesday, April 26th, at King Park, Community Center, 1950 Lemon Ave, Long Beach.
Community residents are invited to attend this free community event. Topics for the meeting include information on the City of Long Beach Emergency Disaster Plan and a presentation on Building Healthy Communities.

The second in a series of free workshops takes place Wednesday, April 27th, at 4 p.m., at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, Social Hall, 1950 Lemon Avenue, Long Beach.
This is the second class of the free workshops that focus on empowering local youth, ages 15 to 19, by assisting them in developing their communication skills and enhancing their self-confidence. The guest speaker this week is Ms. Louise Hicks, the CEO and Founder of L. Hicks Consulting Services, a motivational speaking business. She’s also the author of the highly acclaimed book, A Hill to Climb-- A Teenager‘s Battle with Cancer, Depression, and Drug Addiction.
Hicks devotes much of her time to helping today’s busy woman find a balance between her professional and family life. She also teaches fundamental techniques to teens that will encourage them to stay focused on their life aspirations and goals. Living by the principle, “Actions Speak Louder than Words,” Ms. Hicks founded a community outreach campaign for the Greater Southwest Region of Dallas in November 2010 entitled, “Moving Forward Through Faith, Love, Unity & Action.” The event was as an inspirational venture for the community. She has also volunteered in the public school system and various youth organizations, such as The Boys and Girls Club.
The eight-week Communication and Leadership Program, instructed by Speak Out! Toastmasters, Jack Roberts, Saba McKinley, and Carma Spence, is designed to improve communication and leadership skills.
The workshops will help youth to overcome the fear and nervousness associated with public speaking. For more information call the Office of Councilman Dee Andrews at (562) 570-6816.
