A man has been arrested after allegedly trying to enter the courthouse with a suspicious package.

A 32-year-old Long Beach man has been arrested after allegedly causing a bomb scare that forced the evacuation of the Long Beach Deukmejian Courthouse and surrounding streets shortly after noon Thursday.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad and Long Beach Police Department HAZMAT teams were able to clear the building and reopen it to the public by 2 p.m. No explosives were found.

According to Marlene Arrona, spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched to the courthouse on the 200 block of Magnolia Avenue to assist deputies who were detaining a male subject. The man was trying to enter the building with several items, and a suspicious device was discovered, said Arrona.
