VA Medical Center Construction Nears Completion

Long-planned Long Beach veterans facilities in use, years in planning.

Major new buildings and renovations inside and out of older existing structures at the Long Beach VA MedicalCenter including a graceful portico front entrance to the 12-story Tower Building, a regional landmark for decades, are nearing completion.

Buildings housing the pharmacy, emergency room, ICU and daytime clinics used by 45,000 enrolled vets also now have new patient and staff parking areas close by, off Channel Drive, west of the main entrance facing East Seventh Street. Many clinics are moved and comprehensive leaflet maps are available throughout to guide visitors. The map is also on its public website.

All new facilities are opened for service just as soon completed and the entire complex will be dedicated in a major ceremony next summer after four years that have keopt the site a constantly changing construction zone. A system of free valet parking plus trams and handicapped vans running every 10 minutes has functioned remarkably well.
