Man Struck By Car While Crossing Against Light

Accident took place near Cherry and East Seventh Street.

A man who was crossing a street against the light in Long Beach was hospitalized this morning in critical condition after he was struck by a car, a police lieutenant said.

The accident took place about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Cherry Avenue and East Seventh Street, Long Beach police Lt. Jeff Berkenkamp said.

“Witnesses told the officers the man who was hit was crossing the street against a red light when he was struck by the vehicle,” Berkenkamp said. “The driver who hit him stopped and called police.”

Berkenkamp said the driver waited at the scene and was not impaired, so he was not cited for the accident.

The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Berkenkamp said he remains in critical condition this morning.
