'Missing Girl' Case Turns Out to Be 'Playing Hooky Case'

After a police hunt for a 10-year-old who never showed up to school, her mom found a note saying she had no intention of going to school.

A 10-year-old Long Beach girl who failed to show up at school Tuesday, prompting police to ask for the public’s help in finding her, was found at her grandmother’s residence in Paramount.

“Detectives had been attempting to contact the grandmother, but had initially been unable to reach her,” according to a Long Beach Police Department statement.

Samantha Lazaro left her home in the area of Orange Avenue and Anaheim Street about 7:35 a.m. Her mother believed her daughter was en route to John G. Whittier Elementary School at 1761 Walnut Ave., which is a little over a half- mile away from their home, but she never arrived, police said.
