Updated: Bomb Threat Triggers Evacuations at Long Beach City College
Five campus buildings were evacuated and classes cancelled before investigators declared the area safe.

Several buildings on the liberal arts campus of Long Beach City College were evacuated today while authorities checked out a report of a possible explosive device, which turned out to be unfounded, police said.
Police received a call about 9 a.m. from someone reporting that “there may be an explosive device in a vehicle in one of the parking lots” at the campus in the 4900 block of East Carson Street, said Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.
A bomb squad was sent to the scene, and the college evacuated about five buildings and canceled classes scheduled to begin in those buildings before 2 p.m.

Police blocked traffic along a section of Carson Street and narrowed down their search to a specific vehicle, and a bomb squad determined that no explosives were in the car, Pratt said.
The area was declared safe shortly after noon, and classes scheduled to begin after 2 p.m. were to be held as scheduled.
