Police Officer and Suspect Wounded in Long Beach Shooting

An officer and a suspect were both shot in an exchange of gunfire at a Long Beach apartment complex.

A Long Beach police officer and a gunman were being treated today after an exchange of gunfire at a North Long Beach apartment complex, police said today.

The officer-involved shooting in the 3000 block of Artesia Boulevard occurred at 9:06 p.m. Sunday, said Long Beach police Officer Claudia Lopez.

“As officers entered the complex, the suspect started shooting at the officers,” Lopez said.

“An officer-involved shooting occurred,” she said. “An officer was wounded and transported to a hospital with non- life-threatening injuries. The suspect was wounded and transported to a hospital in stable condition.”

An investigation was underway, Lopez said.
