Police Seek Witnesses to Crash that Killed Pedestrian Near Cal State Long Beach

Investigators are asking witnesses who may have seen the crash that killed an unidentified man in his 60s to come forward.

The Long Beach Police Department today put out a call for information about a collision that fatally injured a pedestrian last month.

The victim was struck at 6:06 p.m. on Feb. 17 at Bellflower Boulevard and Atherton Street and suffered major head and body trauma, according to Long Beach police. He died of his injuries 10 days later.

The preliminary investigation determined the man was walking westbound across Bellflower Avenue, south of Atherton Street, when he was struck by a 2013 Mazda going south on Bellflower. The driver, a 26-year-old Long Beach man, stayed at the scene.

The pedestrian, believed to be in his 60s, was not carrying any identification and has not yet been identified by the coroner’s office, according to police.
