Popcorn Moment!

Have you ever had a popcorn moment? I think I'm having one right now!

It’s no secret that I like random videos that record experiential moments. You just have to look at my channel to know. Usually I’m the one taking the video. Today I came across one from a fellow scouter that I wanted to share. It makes me think of Scouting, of popcorn, of crafting and of cooking. I’m having a Popcorn Brain Moment!

My friend Nancy would call it “popcorn brain”. That time when your brain just has one idea after another each drawing your attention away from the other ideas like a popcorn kernel popping in the pan or the microwave. Pop! Pop! Pop! You know what I mean, yes?

It’s that time when there are so many thoughts crossing your mind, that you have barely enough time to hear yourself think. Pop! Pop! Pop!

I thought of Scouting and some of the recent Eagle Scout projects that have been done by local scouts. I’m a member of Troop 14, which meets at the Belmont Heights United Methodist Church (BHUMC). The boys in the troop have been very busy with Eagle Projects this year. In the past couple of months alone, I’ve been privy to projects by our troop Eagle candidates at the BHUMC, at Wilson High School, at the Bayshore Church. I name just a few.

I thought of “popcorn moments”, which are, apparently, different from “popcorn brain moments”. The term ”popcorn moment” is used to describe an intriguing speech or event, something that grabs our attention and is reminiscent of the movie theater when we usually consume popcorn while immersed in the show.

The term ”popcorn moment” is also used to describe (according to one website) that time when a large amount of something is consumed as we drown ourselves in misery. Here we should replace “gallon of ice cream” with ”bags of popcorn”. Pop! Pop! Pop!

I think of Girl Scout cookies and all the things that you can do with them! That is... all the things you can do with them, besides eat them as cookies. Here’s a search to put you on that path: Things to do with girl scout cookies.

Then I wondered if anyone has a website devoted to Things to do with Boy Scout Popcorn. The answer is in the search. Pop! Pop! Pop!

It might be easy to kick start a site like that! OK. Here’s a post to log ”Things to Do With Boy Scout Popcorn”. Message me if you want to add to the list of things to do.

Now, let me be clear, the popcorn, like the cookies are great all on their own, but I’m a Maker, and I prefer to make things with my food.

Meanwhile, I think I must go get me some popcorn with which I can play!

Here’s where I, and you, can get it, through the end of November. 2480 Brayton Ave Signal Hill Ca. 90755 562 572-1180

I suspect that if you wanted to check it out at the Long Beach Council office, 401 E 37th Street, Long Beach, CA, you might also find some there!

I’m trying to get the video to post here, but meanwhile, I’ll just give you a photo.

Happy Pop! Pop! Popping!
