Proposed PCH Development Vote Tonight
City Council votes tonight on a proposed major development at the corner of 2nd and PCH.

The Long Beach City Council will vote tonight on a proposed $320 million development project on the site of the SeaPort Hotel on Pacific Coast Highway.
Developers picture a "Seaside Village" that will establish "an iconic and welcoming" gateway to Long Beach. The $320 million development would include several structures and feature 175,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, a 100-room hotel and 275 condos — 95 of them with hotel concierge services. The tallest building would be 12 stories high.
Opponents, which include the City of Seal Beach, see a project that is better suited for a downtown area than the intersection of 2nd and PCH,

"From an urban planning standpoint, that's a completely inappropriate building for that corner," said Mark Persico, Seal Beach development services director in an interview with the Orange County Register. "They're taking a downtown-type building and putting it in eastside of the city, which is a more suburban setting."
Environmentalists also note that the proposed development would be just 400 feet from the Los Cerritos wetlands.
