Reward Offered to Tips on Who Killed Mom, Daughter in Long Beach

Carina Mancera and her daughter, Jennabel Anaya, were killed around 10:30 p.m. Saturday at East Ninth Street and Locust Avenue.

LONG BEACH, CA — A $40,000 reward was announced Friday for information that helps police track down the gunman who killed a 26-year-old woman and her 4-year-old daughter in Long Beach last weekend.

"Please don't let this crime go any longer without somebody coming forward and saying, 'You know what I'm not going to tolerate this level of violence anywhere, let alone the city of Long Beach,"' Long Beach police Chief Robert Luna said. "We are absolutely sickened by it."

Police said the victims and the child's father, Luis Anaya, were walking to their nearby residence when gunfire rang out.

Luis Anaya told investigators that a man walked up to his longtime girlfriend and their daughter and suddenly — and without provocation — opened fire, then ran off.

Authorities said they are struggling to figure out who carried out the killings.

"It greatly concerns me as mayor," Mayor Robert Garcia said. "It concerns our police department and brings us a lot of sadness and anger at the same time."

The city of Long Beach and county Board of Supervisors each contributed to $20,000 to the reward fund.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help the family cover funeral expenses. As of late this morning, more than $28,000 had been raised.

"Our family is heartbroken with this tragic event, and we hope that you can help us give these two beautiful souls a graceful resting place," the family's message reads.

Long Beach police detectives asked anyone with information on the shooting to call them at (562) 570-7244.
