Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the LBPL Makerspace Soft Opening
I'd never been to a ribbon cutting ceremony before, but I couldn't miss this one!
The Long Beach Public Library Foundation, the Knight Foundation and the Long Beach City Women's Club were there. Artist Lori Dorn, whose abstracts hang throughout the building and in The Studio was there. The makerspace studio guides Kenny Allen and David Hedden were there. Youth Services Officer Francisco Vargas was there.
The place was the downtown Long Beach Library. The event was the soft opening of The Studio, a new shared use space with high end 2d and 3d image and video editing software, cutting edge computing equipment and a fast network. There's a 3d printer and a wishlist with a 3d scanner near the top of it... The event was a chance to share with donors the accomplishments to date. For some, it was the first time they had ever seen a 3D printer.
Hours are expected to be just shy of the library open hours. The Studio will open 1 hour after the library opens, and close 1 hour before the library closes. Makers of all ages will participate in the space.
The formal opening of the Makerspace is April 17th. Keep posted for notices and reminders!
I took a candid video to share with you.
