Swimmer Rescued Off Granada Beach

A swimmer was rescued Thursday in Belmont Shore.

The rescue occurred around 3:15 p.m. at Granada Beach, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.

Lifeguards tried to help the swimmer, but he became combative, removed his clothing and refused assistance, fire officials said.

Lifeguard rescue boats were used to assist, and the male was taken to a hospital for evaluation, fire officials said.
