Swimming Areas Near Belmont Pier Reopen After Sewage Spill
About 9,000 gallons of sewage was dumped into the Los Angeles River Sunday afternoon.

BELMONT SHORE, CA – Swimming areas west of the Belmont Pier in Long Beach were reopened Tuesday, two days after a sewage spill contaminated the ocean water.
About 9,000 gallons of sewage was dumped into the Los Angeles River leading to the Long Beach shore Sunday afternoon due to a blocked sewage pipe in Commerce.
Long Beach health officials announced Tuesday that lab results show bacteria levels in the water to be within state safety levels, so the beach closures were lifted.
