The Carpenter Center, a partner of the Independent
Television Service, will host six free screenings of ITVS documentary films through
its Community Cinema project. We’ll offer guest speakers, information,
resources and other programming designed to enrich your experience with each
film. The films cover important social issues such as racism, homophobia, education,
climate change, freedom of religion, and women’s rights.
Centering on the historic fight to win marriage equality
in Maryland, The New Black takes viewers into the pews, the streets, and
kitchen tables as it looks at how the African American community grapples with
the divisive gay rights issue. Part of the Women and Girls Lead campaign.
