The Long Beach Sea Festival has one of its busiest weekends of the summer as three fun events fill the calendar on Aug. 24-25.
The annual Tiki Fetival brings the culture and taste of Polynesia to Granda Beach for this free event. It features dancers, music, island foods, tiki carvers, outrigger canoe races and rides. But that's not all; there's an island market place and a fun zone for the kids, plus a "night of fire" Samoa exhibition Saturday at 7 p.m.
The event runs Saturday form 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Also on the weekend is a huge event that's fun for both spectators and participants. It's the Beach Water Polo Cup in Alamitos Bay (corner of Bayshore Ave., at 1st Street and 54th Place).
This features 60 teams competing on six water polo courses. Spectators watch from boats and on the beach, making it a great way to spend a weekend afternoon. Be sure and check out the event's highlight, a match pitting the Long Beach Police Department against the Long Beach Fire Department!
That always-entertaining match takes place Saturday at 5 p.m. The event runs both days from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
As if that's not enough entertainment, on Saturday there is a craft beer festival! It's the Taste of Brews with more than 50 Southern California craft and microbreweries pouring 100+ beers in a scenic outdoor setting.
It's at Lighthouse Park, behind the Long Beach Aquarium, on Saturday. There are food trucks and two bands playing 80s cover music.
Admission is $35 and $45, from either 1-4 p.m., or noon-4 p.m. It's best to get tickets in advance through TasteOfBrews.com.
