What's Up with Former O' My Sole?

A fire of unknown origin somehow ignited in the vacant shop, and late-night strollers spotted it.

Perhaps you've walked by the boarded up glass front of the property between Peet's and Legends and wondered what happened. Here's the deal:  A fire of unknown origin in the empty former O' My Sole shop was spotted by a couple walking past it about 1 a.m. on March 31. They saw flames, and reported it to Legend's bar workers, who called the Long Beach Fire Dept.  According to Gene Rotondo, president of the Belmont Shore Business Assn. and owner of Legend's next door to the burned and vacant property, the fire department put the blaze out before it swept into neighboring businesses, although Peet's did smell like fire the next day, said Rotondo. Workers had been inside the empty shop hours earlier, witnesses said. Arson investigators examined the property the next day, as is routine, Rotondo said. The episode was a bad flashback, he said, to the fire that destroyed most of his cavernous sports bar June 21, 2005.
