Wilson High Will Fight for Moore League Respect in CIF Girls Water Polo Tournament

The unseeded Bruins will open CIF Division 2 play at home Thursday in the first round.

As the champions of the Moore League, Wilson High’s girl’s water polo team will not only look to win a CIF Division 2 title, but to win some respect back for its league.

Unlike the Big VIII, which scored five slots in the Division 2 playoffs, the Moore League was given the minimum three. None of its teams were among the top 4 seeds and while Poly is on the road for the first round, Millikan has to play a wild-card game Tuesday just to get into the tournament.

The CIF Girls Water Polo playoffs begin Tuesday with wild-card games. First round games in Division 2 are Thursday and winners advance to the second round Saturday. The CIF Finals are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Aquatics Center in Irvine.

The top four seeds in the division are San Clemente, Montebello, Corona Santiago and Agoura.

Wilson will have to wait until Tuesday evening to find out who their first-round opponent will be. The Bruins will host the winner of a Tuesday wild-card matchup between Fullerton Rosary (Trinity League No. 3) and Eastvale Roosevelt (Big VIII No. 4).

If the Bruins win their first-round game Thursday, they will likely meet fourth-seeded Agoura Saturday in the second round.

The Jackrabbits, who finished second in the Moore League, travel to third-seeded Santiago Thursday. The Sharks are the Big VIII champions.

Millikan, who finished third in the Moore League, travels to Laguna Hills (South Coast League No. 3) Tuesday in a wild-card game. The winner travels to No. 2 seed Montebello in a first-round game Thursday.
