Woman Escapes Attacker at CSULB

A woman was hospitalized Monday after fighting off a knife-wielding attacker in a Cal State Long Beach parking structure.

Authorities today sought a knife-wielding man who accosted a woman in a parking structure on the campus of California State University Long Beach.

According to a campus police bulletin, the incident occurred about 2:20 p.m. Monday inside Parking Structure 1 at the north end of the campus near the Pyramid.

A man called campus police about 3:45 p.m. Monday “reporting that his daughter was attacked at CSULB earlier that day,” the police bulletin said.

The man told police that his daughter was on the fourth level of the structure when she was approached by an unknown man, police said.

“It was reported that the victim was walking to her car when the male subject brandished a knife,” police said. “She stated she tried to grab the knife and injured her hand in the process. The suspect dropped the knife, picked up the knife, and then ran southbound from the fourth level of Parking Structure 1.”

The woman got into her car and drove to a hospital for treatment, police said. The severity of her injury was not disclosed, and authorities did not say if she was a student.

The suspect was described as white, in his 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, and he wore a blue baseball cap, eyeglasses, a navy blue T-shirt, and blue jeans.
