Woman Shot, Killed in Possible Domestic Violence Dispute

Officers detained two 'persons of interest' about a block from the crime scene. One of the two is believed to be the suspect, police said

A woman was fatally shot Tuesday in Long Beach, and two people were detained for questioning.

Officers sent to the 1900 block of Chestnut Avenue about 8:30 a.m. on a report of possible domestic violence found the woman lying in an alley, said Marlene Arrona of the Long Beach Police Department.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Arrona said. Her name was withheld pending notification of her relatives.

Police learned that a man had fled with a toddler, and officers safely recovered the boy, who appeared unharmed, Arrona said. The tot was placed in the custody of the county’s Department of Children and Family Services.

“Detectives believe (the) suspect is one of the two,” Arrona said.

The relationship between the suspect and the woman and boy was not immediately clear.
