I have not been loving all these fruit smoothie recipes I
see online and on facebook and everywhere I look. It’s not that I am not a fan
of fruit, I am, but a little goes a long way. Truly, you only need a couple of pieces
of fruit a day on average and that is in the summer when your energy is running
high, there may be a need for hydration and all the fruits of summer are ripe.
Of course every body is different and you may be able to metabolize more fruit
than me, but I took my theory for a test drive this morning, and grabbed a pre-made
smoothie from a juice bar. It was still live food, not pasteurized nor homogenized,
but none-the less, had a few too many fruits in it and now I am paying for it
with exhaustion. I was asking for a made to order smoothie when I noticed they
had some already made in the fridge and I said never mind on that, I’ll take
one of these. The lady warned me that there was a whole banana in each one and
we had just discussed my custom order would have as little of the banana as
possible as I knew it had other fruit to make the flavor. It had organic berries,
some beet powder, banana and other things in it. I don’t remember exactly what,
I know it was gluten free and dairy free, I am allergic to these things, so I
wasn’t completely throwing caution to the wind. I feel better when I make my
own smoothies and use berries or ½ of one fruit only, unless it’s a kiwi, then
I will use the whole thing. Less sugar is better for me and probably most
everyone else too. So there you have it, my 2cents on enjoying the fruits of summer.
