1 Dead In Shooting Involving Off-Duty Richmond Officer In Vallejo
BREAKING: "The other party involved in the shooting remained on site and was determined to be an off-duty Richmond Police Officer."
VALLEJO, CA — A person died Sunday in Vallejo in a shooting involving an off-duty Richmond police officer, according to the Vallejo and Richmond police departments. The shooting was reported at 5:25 p.m. Nov. 10 in the 500 block of Fairgrounds Drive. When officers arrived, they found one person suffering from a gunshot wound who was pronounced deceased at the scene, said Vallejo police Lt. Bob Knight.
"The other party involved in the shooting remained on site and was determined to be an off-duty Richmond Police Officer," Knight said in a news release.
Neither the victim nor the officer accused of being involved had been formally identified by authorities at time of publication.

Several social media accounts, however, have reported that the victim is Eric "CheddaMan" Reason. Photos posted on some accounts show a large crowd of people gathered Sunday night near the intersection of Fairgrounds Dive and Sereno Drive, where a Valero gas station and JJ's Fish and Chicken restaurant are located.

The Facebook profile for Eric "CheddaMan" Reason shows he attended Hogan Senior High School in Vallejo and Napa Valley College in Napa, and has worked for UPS and Greater Vallejo Recreation District.
Detectives from the Vallejo Police Department and investigators with the Solano County District Attorney's Office were continuing an investigation of the fatal shooting under the county's protocol for such incidents, Knight said.
The Richmond Police Department confirmed in a statement Monday that one of its officers was involved in the fatal shooting:
"... While we can’t release the identity of the officer at this time, we trust Vallejo Police Department to conduct a fair and thorough investigation regarding this incident," Richmond PD officials said. "Due to the fact that the incident occurred with an off-duty officer in another city, we are not able to release any other details pending Vallejo Police Department’s investigation. Our department will also perform an internal administrative review of any potential policy violations.
"This is a difficult time for our department, any other parties involved, and both the Vallejo and Richmond communities. However, we remain dedicated to providing the best service for all. As always, our department is committed to performing in a manner that promotes public trust, safety, and transparency. Please note that we are unable to discuss any ongoing investigation, but will release any information as we are able ... "
