2 Women Die In North Bay House Fire

Firefighters found three people inside the home and all three were rushed to local hospitals where the two women died.

VALLEJO, CA — Two Vallejo residents died Tuesday from injuries suffered in a house fire, officials said.

Firefighters with the Vallejo Fire Department responded at 4:47 p.m. Tuesday to the fire at a home in the 100 block of Bayview Avenue. When crews got there, the blaze had already fully engulfed the basement and extended to the residence above, fire officials said.

While attempting to bring the active fire under control, firefighters conducted a "life-rescue search operation" and found three people inside the home. The victims were brought outside and rushed to local hospitals.

Two of the victims, an 81-year-old woman and her 50-year-old daughter, died shortly after they arrived at the hospital. The victims' names were not disclosed by the fire department.

The third resident suffered smoke inhalation and burns but was expected to make a full recovery.

A family dog was also declared dead at the scene.

"On behalf of the Vallejo Fire Department, I would like to express our deepest condolences to the family during this very difficult time. We are all devastated by this tragic loss of life," Vallejo Fire Chief Kyle Long said. "I would also like to commend our firefighters for their heroic efforts in a rescue operation during an active fire and their ability to preserve the life of one victim during this horrific incident."

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday but fire officials have determined it started in the basement area.
