BENICIA, CA — Crews have stopped forward progress of a major fire that broke out in an industrial area of Benicia at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Benicia Fire Department.
The brush fire broke out near northbound I-680 near Industrial Way. The California Highway Patrol Solano closed the Industrial Way on-ramp into I-680, according to the fire department. Several structures in the industrial district were threatened, leading to the evacuation of several buildings, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
As of 3 p.m., the I-680 offramp to Lake Herman Road in Benicia, the Industrial Way on-ramp, and the right lane of I-680 northbound north of Bayshore Road are all closed, according to 511.org. There is also a SigAlert in place as of 4:02 p.m..
At 2:30 p.m., the fire was upgraded to a four-alarm fire, and crews from numerous nearby cities were helping with the response. ConFire also responded with a helicopter.
At 3:30 p.m., forward progress was stopped, though significant traffic delays remain along I-680.
