According to Fairfield police, shooting broke out inside the Halloween store about 8:30 p.m. Friday. A pregnant woman, 31-year-old Constance Hages, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Six others were wounded, all males, aged 43, 32, 23 and 16 and two 19-year-olds. One of the 19-year-olds was still hospitalized in critical condition on Monday, police said.

According to the district attorney, Smith is being charged with two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder and multiple weapons charges. The district attorney also filed a petition to transfer Smith from juvenile court to adult court so he can be tried as an adult.

In a press conference Monday, Fairfield police said Smith was previously charged in connection with a shooting in a parking lot at Fairfield High School in September 2025. He served time in juvenile hall and was released.
