Artist Profile: Carin Coleridge
Local artist works from her studio in her dream house.
Carin Coleridge, who is originally from Sweden, studied art late in life. She and her husband moved to Benicia in 1999 and built their dream house, complete with a sun-filled art studio.
She first studied watercolor but eventually began using acrylics. Coleridge still works in both mediums in a diverse style. Her geometric watercolor floral paintings are being well received. She's also developed a time-consuming technique of cutting paper stencils and painting around them to create a multi-layered image. And she has begun to paint gourds to create unique creatures.
Although Coleridge does sell work, she said she paints for herself and her family. “I love painting with all of my six grandchildren.” When she does sell a painting, she uses the money to purchase more art supplies.

An avid traveler, Coleridge travels to Sweden at least once a year and recently cruised from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Santiago, Chile, with her husband — “around the end of the world,” as she put it.
