Artist Profile: Sandra Summerfield Kozak
Benicia painter balances life with art and yoga.
As a child, Sandra Summerfield Kozak grew up with several artists in her family. While in school, she took an interest in drawing, painting, sculpting and printmaking so her interest in art has grown and changed throughout her life.
During the 1970's and 1980's she focused on painting. By the 90's she began working with clay making bowls. “I found the connection between philosophy and art rekindling my passion for painting,” says Kozak.
For two years Kozak focused on a series of Aboriginal inspired abstract-expressionistic paintings. “This Reflections of Consciousness series is intended to represent aspects of the mind and consciousness,” explains Kozak. “Art stimulates our spiritual awareness because it is intimate expression born from presence.” While painting, Kozak tries to remain open to whatever evolves. “Only then can I witness the expression of consciousness.
