Artist Profile: Stan Dann

Wood sculptor creates unique three-dimensional art.

Stan Dann's wood sculptures are conceptual and stylized. He's inspired by his belief that art is closely linked to the human condition. Dann translates places and things that are common in everyday life into a meaningful context. He transforms simple images into visually stimulating and provocative works of art.

Dann starts each piece of art with a drawing. The sketches are transferred onto wood and cut up into multiple pieces. The piece is then sanded and reassembled like a jigsaw puzzle.

Dann has been exhibiting his work since 1983 in San Francisco, Berkeley, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C. and London. Commissioned works can be found at Stanford University, multiple locations of Kaiser Permanente and the U.S. Air Force art collection in Washington, D.C.
