Attention Benicia Drivers: Interstate 80 Closure Planned This Weekend
The eight hour closure is planned because of construction.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Interstate 80 will be closed overnight this Saturday into Sunday because of construction on a new pedestrian overcrossing. It's a complete closure in both directions between San Pablo Avenue and San Pablo Dam Road from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Detours will be in place.
The Interstate 80/San Pablo Dam Road interchange is being completely redone. The first phase of the project involves the relocation of the El Portal Drive on-ramp to westbound I-80 to the north, the extention of the auxiliary lane along westbound I-80 between the San Pablo Dam Road off-ramp and the El Portal Drive on-ramp, and reconstruction of the Riverside Avenue pedestrian overcrossing.
It's the pedestrian overcrossing that's causing the weekend closure. The concrete has already been poured. Crews will be removing support structures that were put in place for the construction phase.
