Authorities ID Pedestrian Hit, Killed On I-80 In Solano County

The fatal incident happened Saturday night on eastbound Interstate 80 near West Texas Street.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — A pedestrian who was struck and killed Saturday night on Interstate Highway 80 in Fairfield was identified by the Solano County coroner's office as Jesus Zuniga, 38, of Fairfield.

The fatal incident happened at 9:35 p.m. when for unknown reasons, Zuniga was trying to cross the eastbound lanes of I-80, just east of West Texas Street, and was struck by a Chevrolet Camaro, the California Highway Patrol said.

Zuniga was taken by Medic Ambulance to North Bay Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

A 33-year-old Fairfield man was driving the Camaro and did not report any injuries.

"At this time, it is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol intoxication is a factor in this traffic collision," CHP Officer Jason Tyhurst said Tuesday in a news release.

The CHP is continuing its investigation and asked anyone with pertinent information to call its non-emergency line at 1-800-TELL-CHP — 1-800-835-5247 — or the CHP Solano Area Office at 707-639-5600.

"Relate that you have information for CHP-Solano and Officer Ussery who is handling this investigation," Tyhurst said. "Any information obtained in regard to the collision will be greatly appreciated."
