Battle of Bands Is Back At Upcoming Dixon May Fair

Got a band? Cash prizes total $8,000 -- plus, a chance to compete in San Diego! The last "Battle" at the Dixon May Fair was 1977.

DIXON, CA - If you have, or know of, a band that’s got the right sound, but needs some exposure, then the Dixon May Fair Battle of the Bands is a great opportunity to earn some cash, do some traveling, and be seen by thousands of potential fans. With cash prizes totaling $8,000, the winning band is also guaranteed final round entry into the San Diego County Fair Battle where another $8,000 is offered.

Topping off the cash prizes, the winning band will also be invited to perform on the Promenade Stage at the 2016 California State Fair.

The Dixon May Fair will be hosting the Johnny Ruiz Memorial Battle of the Bands at the 2016 Fair on May 6. Johnny Ruiz, who passed away in 2015, was a member of the Stevenson Bridge Band that won the last Battle of the Bands at the Fair in 1977. The competition is open to all of Northern California – a complete list of counties is available on-line.

The First Place band will receive a cash prize of $3,000 plus entry into the final round of the 2016 San Diego County Fair’s Battle of the Bands, including a $2,000 travel stipend. Second place will receive $2,000 and third place earns $1,000.

Any genre band of three members or more, ages 18 and older, can download an application and submit materials for review. Lyrics, attire, image and performance must be suitable for a family environment. Eight finalists will be selected to perform on Friday, May 6th during the Fair.

The application and a fee of $100 is due in the Fair office by March 4. Complete rules, guideline and application are available on-line at DixonMayFair.com.
