Benicia Education Foundation “Run for Education” Supports Libraries and Technology Programs
Schools benefit from the proceeds of the race, city benefits by having out of town competitors.

The runners are getting loosened up in preparation for the Benicia Education Foundation’s Fifth Annual Run for Education 5K and 10K run and 1 mile fund run happening this Sunday, April 15. All proceeds from the run will support libraries and technology programs at all the schools in the Benicia Unified School District.
According to race organizer Teresa Zabrek, because of all the out of town racers who compete on the relatively flat course, it’s not just the schools that benefit from the event. “There’s a great value in having so many out of town competitors see our city,” said Zabrek. “They can’t help but see the best views of Benicia because that’s where we put the course.”
There will be some street closures Sunday morning in the downtown between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. so any residents who live south of Military West should be prepared for delays if they want to drive out of the area Sunday morning.

An added benefit for serious runners is course accreditation by USA Track and Field but for those with a casual acquaintance with running the real benefit is helping the schools while getting some exercise.
“You can only run so fast so if you participate in the run you’re going to get some great views,” said Zabrek.
