Benicia Fire Chief Headed To Coronado

Jim Lydon​ has served as the city's fire chief for four years.

BENICIA, CA – Benicia Fire Chief Jim Lydon is leaving the North Bay for Southern California. Lydon, who has served as the city's fire chief for four years, has been named the new fire chief of Coronado in San Diego County.

Lydon has nearly 40 years of experience, first serving in the city of San Rafael and progressing through the ranks from dispatcher to battalion chief. During his tenure as fire chief of Benicia, the City Council appointed Lydon as acting city manager while recruiting for the position. Lydon also led the city’s response to the Valero refinery incident in Benicia earlier this year.

Lydon holds a master’s degree from Gonzaga University and a bachelor’s degree in fire service administration from Cogswell Polytechnical College. He maintains an active paramedic license and possesses multiple professional certifications in the fields of emergency response and incident management.

He will start his new job in Coronado on Oct. 10. His initial base salary will be approximately $189,000 annually.
