Benicia Firefighters Rescue Woman From Overturned Sailboat

Three people were in the boat when it capsized and left them in rough water, fire officials said.

BENICIA, CA — Benicia firefighters came to the rescue Wednesday of three people who were left in the water when their sailboat capsized in the Carquinez Strait.

Benicia Fire Department personnel were dispatched at 4:26 p.m., and responded with a rescue boat to the waters of the Carquinez Strait, between 1st street and West 9th, according to Benicia Fire Department Capt. Mike Brown.

Firefighters arrived to find three people in the water, including a woman who was struggling and treading water down current.

Firefighters brought the woman to safety on the rescue boat, then took her back to shore.

The other two people righted their boat and, with the help of firefighters, secured it in the rough water.
