Benicia Gas Leak, Evacuation Occurs When Vehicle Crashes Into Building

A vehicle crashed into a building in Benicia Thursday night, causing a gas leak and the evacuation of the surrounding area.

BENICIA, CA -- A vehicle crashed into a building in Benicia Thursday night, causing a gas leak and the evacuation of the surrounding area.

The Benicia Police Department at 6:33 p.m. reported the crash at the corner First and West C streets.

Both the police and the Benicia Fire Department responded to the scene and determined the vehicle had struck a gas meter.

The meter was leaking uncontrollably, and response personnel closed the streets in the area and evacuated nearby businesses and residences.

PG&E responded to the scene and had the leak secured by 8:05 p.m., according to city officials.

One of the occupants of the vehicle suffered minor injuries in the crash but was not transported to the hospital.
