Benicia High Pole Vault Competitor Qualifies for State Meet in Clovis
Pole Vault competitor Adam Thomas placed third in Sac-Joaquin Sectionals.

junior Adam Thomas will compete at the California CIF State Track and Field Championships Meet on Friday, June 1 in Clovis. The top nine vaulters will move on to the finals on Saturday.
While Thomas says he’s a little nervous this year it’s nothing compared to last year when he went to the state meet as a sophomore. “Last year was the first time I’d been there,” said Thomas.
Thomas took third place at the Sac-Joaquin Masters meet last week in Sacramento when he cleared 14-6. He thinks the opening height at the state meet will be 14-3. “To make the finals I’ll probably have to clear 15-3,” said Thomas. “14-8 is my personal record which is also tied for the Benicia High School record.”

Thomas sounds like a veteran when talking about his chances at the state meet. “It’s really a matter of taking all the things I’ve been working on all year and making everything come together,” said Thomas.
Participants in the pole vault are scheduled to start warming up around 4:30 p.m. Friday with the competition starting around 5:30 in the afternoon. The state meet will be held at Buchanan High School in Clovis.
