Benicia PD's Youth Citizen Police Academy Sign-Ups Underway

The free session is for 7th & 8th graders, who will explore such topics as crime-scene investigations, radar guns, law & arrests.

BENICIA, CA — Enrollment is underway for this summer's Youth Citizen Police Academy —free in Benicia.

Hosted by the Benicia Police Department and held at Benicia Middle School, the 2022 session runs 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, Aug. 1-5, and is open to city residents or Benicia school attendees entering 7th and 8th grades.

Among topics covered, with age-appropriate instructions and guidance, are DUIs with vision goggles, criminal law and arrest procedures, evidence collection at crime scenes, operating police radar guns, discussions on gun safety and "what would you do?" scenarios, the department said.
