Benicia Street Pipeline Project Under Way; Expect Traffic Delays

From the City of Benicia: Construction on the Lower Arsenal/East 5th Street Pipeline Replacement Project is scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 17, 2018.

The work consists of replacing potable water pipelines on Jefferson Street and portions of Adams Street, Grant Street, and East 5th Street.

Beginning April 17, 2018, work to be completed for:

• Grant Street and Adam Street: Weekdays from 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
• East 5th Street and Jefferson Street: Weekdays from 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The City retained Team Ghilotti as its general contractor, and Bellecci & Associates to serve as the
Construction Manager.

Team Ghilotti began surveying and staking the project boundaries last week and will continue pot-holing the
street to locate all underground utilities. While the work is underway, the streets will remain open to facilitate
traffic flow; however, traffic patterns will be changed to allow the improvements to be constructed and reduced speeds will be in effect to ensure safe passage through the construction zone.

Please anticipate experiencing minor delays beginning April 17.

The improvements will ensure critical water delivery along these streets, improving fire flow and system reliability. The project consists of replacing 6-inch cast iron pipes installed in the early 1940’s with 8-inch ductile iron pipe and strategic isolation valves.

The project is scheduled for completion in early August 2018.

This $1.2 million water project is being partially funded by the water rate increase and was identified in the 2012 Water System Master Plan as a top priority project.
