Another Gem on First Street!
"Mai" (Thai) why have I not come here before? First time visit to Mai Tai on First Street.
Sometimes the next choice is better than the first one. A "I'm hungry, must eat now" date night with my significant other kept us crossing our fingers that our favorite date spot was available and not as busy as it has been for many of our recent visits. Which by the way, leads us to walk away because we knew it just wasn't going to happen with us getting to sit down and enjoy food we were both craving.
This occurred for us again on this particular date night evening, so as we cruised on First Street, we both saw Mai Thai. Now as a (off) First Street resident I have passed this restaurant many of times. And my eye always caught their lunch and happy hour specials. But I just have not given myself opportunity to step in.
When you do walk in you are met with generous number of tables for the space Mai Thai is given. One wall is all sunken tables where you can take off your shoes (cubby holes are built into the steps) and use that flexibility I know you have to insert your legs under the table. Back and tushie pillows keep you comfortable as you enjoy the fun in getting seated at the table.

We ordered to share their Chicken Tom Yum soup and Yellow Curry dish with side of rice. Of course a little indulgence doesn't hurt when you include Thai Iced Tea. All of the meals are a la carte. So if you're hungry, the portions of food here are perfect. I like the whole sharing of the meals because we each get to enjoy the same amount of the dishes and its good for both of our tummies and wallets.
The Chicken Tom Yum soup is all of the right amount of 'heat'. With the on-spot spice, this is definitely a contender with other soups that hit the spot when you're sick or to warm up on a cold day. Served in a miniature hot pot, the soup stays rightfully hot until the very last spoonful.

The fan favorite at our table that evening was the Chicken Yellow Curry. Creamy textures just oozed out of this dish. The chicken was cooked so well that it just extenuated flavors amongst its vegetable and carb peers. This is one of those times we regret sharing food because from the looks of it we both ate everything up so quickly we were actually sad there was no more to go around.
The service is quick and friendly. The prices are also friendly which is makes this restaurant even more of a competitor of the other restaurants in town. And the personal raves my significant other and I had afterwards, well we know we may have found a restaurant to pin to our date night list.
