Local Duplicate players compete in the North American Bridge Championships

Thousands of Bridge players from around the world descended on the Marriott Hotel in San Francisco last week for 10 days of competition in the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) 2012 Fall North American Bridge Championships. Multiple pair and team events for beginner to expert level were held each day. Many players competed in two-session daily events, requiring play of as many as 56 hands of Duplicate Bridge.
Several local players won Master Points. Lynn Dahm and Dave Cappucini scored 23.2 Gold Master Points from victories in several events, including three days of Knock-Out teams. The wins were enough to earn Lynn Dahm both her Life Master and Bronze Life Master ACBL designations. Dave Cappucini, already a Bronze Life Master, won points that bring him closer to his Silver Life Master. Rosemary and Pete Boss, JB Davis, Gretchen Filer, Laurie Hailey, Wayne Miller and Charlie Rollins placed well in several events, bringing home Red and Black Masters Points.
Prior to the tournament competition, Wayne Miller and Gretchen Filer completed the comprehensive three day ACBL Director's Course and examination, each earning their certification as ACBL Director. The Director certification qualifies them for management, oversight and official ruling of Duplicate games at ACBL Clubs.
