Poor Pride: Affordable Fun in Benicia

Poor Pride means having good cheap fun!

During these financially tough times, it's important to keep doing things that we enjoy. Even if you're broke, you can still have fun right here in town. Here are a few inexpensive entertainment ideas:

What: Movie Night

Cost: $10 per month

Find out what's happening in Beniciafor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Instead of spending $10 a person to go the movies, spend $10 a month on Netflix, it's only $6 per month to stream unlimited movies. If you have Comcast or AT&T U-verse, you probably have movies on demand and many are free.

If you have a large screen TV, host a movie and dinner theme night at home. Invite friends to bring food related to the movie you are watching.

What: Bike Ride with a View

Cost: Free

Take advantage of the nice weather by taking a bike ride down First Street, at Benicia State Park or at Community Park. It's great exercise and you'll enjoy the beautiful views we have here in Benicia. Don't forget a hat, sunscreen and water.

What: $1 Dinner Party

Cost: About $10 per family

Host a $1 Dinner Party. Invite friends to a potluck but the catch is all the food has to come from either the One Dollar store or the Grocery Outlet. You'd be surprised what you'll find. OR... host a bring-what-you-have dinner party. Guests bring what groceries they have in their fridge, freezer or pantry and the group makes dinner together with the combined ingredients.

What: Budgetini Party

Cost: About $2 per martini

I love nothing better than a lovely cocktail downtown, but a Budgetini party can be really fun. Host a Budgetini party where friends bring their favorite martini mixers. Find some fun recipes online an make a party of it. For the cost of one martini, you can make dozens. You'll find great sales on mixers and spirits at .

What: A Day at the Beach

Cost: Free

Take the kids to the 9th Street Beach for the afternoon. Pack a picnic, beach chairs and an umbrella. Sure, the beach is not worthy of Bay Watch scenes, but on a hot day it's a nice place to chillax.

Some of the best things in Benicia are free, so embrace your  and enjoy them.
