The Ashland food co-op. To me it’s a little slice of heaven on earth.

A trip to the Ashland Coop turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It becomes a favorite place to have breakfast, lunch and dinner, a home away from home.

I have been traveling a little bit in Southern Oregon, not so much for pleasure but for necessity. My mother’s doctor is about 2 hours away from where she lives and she needs me to drive her to her appointments for now. When I first went to Ashland, I decided to seek out a ‘whole foods’ type store. When I found the Ashland food co-op, I was pleasantly surprised. In my hometown where my mother lives I hardly get a chance to shop for my favorite natural food staples and my raw cacao treat ingredients, mainly because there is not much interest for those things there. So many of the things I like to eat are in this co-op store; gluten free crackers and tamari, fresh organic produce, and all kinds of nuts, seeds, grains and beans included. They had two things that I just had to try using for my chocolate making. They had a raw cacao paste that wasn’t paste but was smoothed out chocolate pieces, not cooked, but raw, and with the original cocoa butter to cacao powder ratio. I also found cocoa butter cheaper than anywhere else and that makes me very happy. There is a salad bar with raw sauerkraut and freshly prepared dressings. They have warmed prepared foods too. I was even able to accommodate my mother who likes donuts for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch and meat and potatoes for dinner. This is the only time I have had Teeccino away from home (my coffee replacement drink of choice). What a treat to have all these fresh healthy foods in one place and friendly service to boot. I love the Ashland food co-op.
