Health & Fitness

Traveling with food for eating on the plane proves pretty easy and convenient.

Having healthy meals and snacks while traveling by airplane is a snap when you bring your own food.

Did you know, you can get on the plane with an extra bag, if your bag is just food? You can even take liquids, as long as they are sealed. If you bring a water bottle, you can fill it after the security checkpoint. I brought food enough for at least 4 meals and a few snacks on my journey to New York. On the morning of my departure, I did manage to whip up a batch of cacao treats, run to the store and go to lunch. I brought along the leftovers from lunch; brown rice with black beans, sprinkled with chopped red pepper, parsley, cucumbers with a little pineapple/jalepeno sauce.

For my first snack I had the rice, chocolates, peanuts, and coffee (the latter two items provided by the airline). For dinner, I had veggies and hummus I brought along. The veggies were already chopped up and ready to eat when I bought them. I prefer them cooked a little, so I parboiled them, just a tad, so they stay crisp and fresh. The veggies included broccoli, carrots, snap peas and snow peas. For breakfast I had some granola (with bits of chocolate in it) and almond milk (very small cartons). I washed and re-used my utensils for a few days. I also brought protein mix packets with me. This ended up not being the best choice, the mix didn’t blend well with the liquid with just a utensil in a cup. I went through my chocolates in the first two days, the thought was they’d last for four. No surprise there! One last thing, good food and snacks don’t take the place of rest. Healthy food helps, but good rest is also very important. Bon voyage!
