Try a superfood smoothie with cacao for breakfast.

Having a super food smoothie for breakfast, a great summer treat, can be detoxifying, nutritious and delicious.

I am now having cacao for breakfast. This smoothie works very well in a Nutri-bullet. I have wanted to make smoothies for a long time but was feeling inhibited by the fact the seeds and nuts are usually strained out of drinks at some stage in the smoothie game. Nutri-bullet pulverizes the nuts and seeds, so there is no straining necessary. Here’s the recipe for a super detoxifying smoothie breakfast; fill the container half full of greens. I have used butter lettuce, romaine lettuce, dino kale and spinach (not all at once, but, you could.) Then, fill half the container with fresh organic berries. Blueberries have been my berry of choice, but you could use blackberries, strawberries, or cherries. Add a few extras like hemp seeds for protein and a few nuts like almonds, pecans, walnuts or cashews. Then you fill up some space with a liquid; water, coffee, nut ‘mylk,’ or coconut water, for instance. I have only tried water and coconut water, the latter taste better and is full of electrolytes. For more ‘super food add-ins,’ you could try chia seeds, or bee pollen. I have also used grapefruit (1/4 of the fruit has done well). I sweeten the drink with stevia. If you need the smoothie to replace a meal, meaning, you won’t eat again till lunch or later; adding 1/2 of an avocado does the job. The longer you let this drink last, the longer you stay energized. Last, but not least, add the super powerful 2 heaping tablespoons of cacao powder or 5 good-sized cacao beans. Cacao is optional, but really, you ought to try it, it’s delicious.
