Benicia Public Library

Red Cross volunteers John Williams and Ron Cohea, both Red Volunteers with 20 years of experience, will be the featured presenters at the Carquinez Village / Benicia Public Library Speaker Series to be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, Sep. 17, at the Benicia Public Library, located at 150 East L Street.
Williams and Cohea will prepare attendees with valuable information to keep individuals safe during an earthquake, fire or flood. This will include making a plan, and a "to go" bag with needed supplies in case of an emergency. They will suggest good resources for being informed.
September is Red Cross' Emergency Preparedness month and this year's theme is "America Stands Ready".
Those interested in attending the Sep. 17 presentation are asked to register at the Carquinez Village website: <a href="https://www.carquinezvillage.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.carquinezvillage.com/</a>. There is an option for a person to register to participate by Zoom on the website.
The Dona Benicia room at the Benicia Library has an Assisted Listening System. To get access to this system the city must be contacted in advance. The Benicia-Vallejo branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), will host a Fall Membership Event and Lunch at 12:30 pm to 2 pm, Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the Jack London Park Picnic Pavillion, Benicia, CA. at 684 Hastings Drive (near Rose Drive). AAUW founded in 1881, is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that advances <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justice" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">equity</a>
for <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">women</a> and girls through <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advocacy" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">advocacy</a>, education, and research. Membership is open to any graduate with an associate or equivalent, Baccalaureate or higher degree. Undergraduates qualify as student affiliates with full branch participation.

The local Benicia-Vallejo AAUW Branch is an active group of equity advocates. Group activities include a variety of opportunities: educational, social, cultural, and public policy related. Since 1998, branch activities have raised scholarship funds for a local project called Tech Trek. This program provides scholarships for a one-week hands-on math and science camp for selected 7th grade girls that is held at a nearby university campus in June. The branch offers a program calendar from September through June

Fairfield Civic Center Library

Experience a unique creative collaboration where poets read their works and artists choose a poem to inspire brand new artwork.Artists will come hear the poems for the first event and choose a poem from which to create an art piece. The second event, artists will bring their art and poets will re-read their poem next to the piece.
